The room before the room

Every door I've walked through publicly was opened in a room nobody saw. Here's what happens in the private room.

People ask me how I ended up in certain rooms. The honest answer is that the room they're pointing at was never the first room. There was always an earlier one — smaller, quieter, no cameras — where I was asked to be faithful with something that felt too small to matter.

Setting up chairs. Running cable. Sitting with someone after service when I wanted to go home. Showing up for a shoot that nobody would credit me on. That's the room before the room, and it is where character gets built and where God decides what He can trust you with.

Here's the trap: once you get into the visible room, it's tempting to stop doing the invisible work. But the private room is not a season you graduate from. It's the engine. The day I stop serving quietly is the day my public life starts running on fumes.

So if you're in the small room right now and it feels like nothing is happening — something is happening. You're becoming the kind of person who can carry what's coming without it carrying you.
