Somewhere along the way we started treating influence like a scoreboard. Followers, downloads, invitations, green rooms. But influence isn't a prize you win — it's a responsibility you get handed, usually before you feel ready for it.
A trophy is something you display. A trust is something you answer for. Those two postures produce completely different leaders. The trophy leader protects their image. The trust leader protects their people.
Practically, this shows up in small decisions. Do you take the meeting that helps someone else and does nothing for you? Do you credit the person who actually did the work? Do you tell the truth when the flattering version would spread further?
The leaders I want to be around all pass the same test: their private life can hold the weight of their public life. If yours can't yet, slow the platform down. Nobody ever regretted growing at the speed of their character.
